Dar Al-Fonoun was the name of a middle school that was founded on the initiative of Mirza Taghi Khan Amir Kabir during Naser-i-Din Shah Ghajar for the teaching of new sciences and techniques in Tehran. Darulfonon can be considered the first university in the modern history of Iran. In Iranian writings, until recently, all foreign universities were called the Academy of Sciences. The Darulfonon building is located at Naser Khosrow Street in the city center of Tehran.
