No! This is 1968, but ISO 3166 is 1974.

Actually both the vehicle country code and ISO 3166 derived from a code list prepared by United Nations. Although in the beginning the vehicle country code didn't follow ISO 3166, it did use ISO 3166 for reference during the following revision (You can see many concurrences in the two lists). Then became the list we saw here. To clearify this point, I added the term 『最初』to mention the first list is done in 1968, not the present list. Hope it will help!--SElephant 07:16 2004年6月22日 (UTC)

无意中通过无数链接到达这个页面，发现在中文版中，中国（大陆）的标记是VRC，很是疑惑。查询英文和德文版，进一步发现这三个语种的版本有三种说法。显然又是一个由特殊、临时与倍具争论的两岸分治状态导致的困惑。在联合国的网页中查得“联合国欧洲经济委员会运输部”（United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Transport Division）的一份文件；其中显示，至2004年8月30日，与中国地区有关、并有备案的代码只有RC，签约方列作“China (Republic of)”，而此文件早些时候的2001年版中，签约方列作“China”。猜想也是因为该委员会感到困惑，就干脆依据当年（1968年？）的文件而修编2004年版；另一方面，这些代码在大陆或台湾或许都没有被正式采纳、发授与实际使用。因此相应合并中文版中的“两个中国”条列，删除目前实际没有备案的“中国人民共和国”的代码，也将目前实际没有签约（或存在）的国名“台湾”改为“中华民国”。R.O.C 22:54 2005年3月13日 (UTC)
