旋律金屬核是一種着重強調器樂旋律的金屬核音樂，特徵是旋律性強的吉他riff，衝擊波，並且經常加入一些旋律死亡金屬的元素。其特徵是金屬核風格的breakdown和在嘶吼，核嗓與清嗓之間變換的主唱。 [1]

旋律金屬核深受吉他riff和瑞典旋律死亡金屬樂隊作曲風格，尤其是At the Gates，[1] 邪神大敵，烈焰邪神和撒旦之作樂團的影響，他們在自己的作品中運用大量的器樂旋律。許多旋律金屬核常常是清嗓與嘶吼共存。還有泛音吉他riff，交替上下撥弦,雙踩和金屬風格的breakdown。[2]
