雅各布斯是一位禁酒主義者，她曾說自己在年輕的時候因為「看着家裡的人費力對付毒癮」而做出了永不喝酒、永不吸毒的選擇。[20][21][22][23]她透露，她的父親是個癮君子，她因此害怕以同樣的方式毀掉自己的生活；她年輕時讀過《去問愛麗絲》（Go Ask Alice）這本關於一個15歲癮君子的警世故事，這本書更加堅定了她的這種感覺。
