菲拉·索旺德（英語：Fela Sowande，全名：Olufela Obafunmilayo "Fela" Sowande，1905年5月29日—1987年3月13日）是一名尼日利亞音樂家、作曲家。曾獲得MBE勳章。他被認為是現代尼日利亞音樂之父，也是歐洲古典音樂領域中最著名的非洲作曲家。[1]
早年生活[編輯]
菲拉·索旺德出生在阿貝奧庫塔（位於拉各斯附近），父親埃曼紐爾·索旺德（Emmanuel Sowande）是尼日利亞教會音樂的牧師和先驅。童年時參加了教堂合唱團。畢業於拉各斯CMS文法學校和拉各斯國王學院。[2]
他早年受父親和和作曲家埃昆達約·菲利普斯的影響很大。他在菲利普斯門下學習管風琴（包括巴赫和歐洲古典大師的作品），並獲得了皇家管風琴學院的獎學金文憑（FRCO）。當時他還擔任樂隊領隊，演奏爵士樂和流行的highlife音樂。1932年他首次通過收音機聽到了Duke Ellington的作品，這是他第一次聽到爵士樂，並從中收到激發[3]。這些經歷都對他的工作產生了相當大的影響。
倫敦[編輯]
1934年索旺德赴倫敦學習古典和流行音樂。1936年他在喬治·格什溫的《藍色狂想曲》表演中擔任獨奏鋼琴家。1939年，他在流行歌手阿德萊德·霍爾和薇拉·琳恩的作品中負責演奏管風琴。後來，他在埃德蒙·魯布拉（Edmund Rubbra）、喬治·奧德羅伊德（George Oldroyd）和喬治·坎寧安（George Cunningham）的指導下繼續學習管風琴，並於1943年成為皇家管風琴學院的院士。
索旺德獲得了倫敦大學音樂學學士學位，並任職於三一音樂學院。他還在第二次世界大戰期間，擔任英國信息部的音樂顧問，為教育影片提供背景音樂。
從1945年到1952年，他一直是衛理公會西倫敦傳教部著名的管風琴手和合唱團指揮，大量管風琴音樂作品的歷史可以追溯到這一時期。這些作品大多基於尼日利亞旋律，並吸引了大量來自非洲和加勒比海的移民。在此期間，他還是一名舞蹈鋼琴家、樂隊領隊和哈蒙德風琴手，演奏當時流行的曲調。
西方和非洲的思想在他的音樂中盛行，其中大部分都受到英國聖公會音樂的強烈影響，並結合了約魯巴五聲音調的旋律。
他的管弦樂作品有《管弦樂六速寫》、《民間交響曲》、《非洲管弦組曲》等，表現出非洲節奏和和聲的特點。《非洲管弦組曲》的最後一個樂章因加拿大廣播公司的音樂節目《吉爾莫的相冊》（Gilmour's Albums）而出名[4] ，現已成為加拿大管弦樂隊的標準[5]。他還寫了大量的世俗和神聖合唱音樂，主要是無伴奏合唱。其中一些作品是在他與BBC合作期間創作的。
後來，他回到尼日利亞，在尼日利亞廣播公司和伊巴丹大學工作。由於他在尼日利亞廣播公司的工作，他在1955年女王生日時，被授予MBE勳章。[6]
1957年曾訪問美國，在紐約、芝加哥和波士頓等地演出了他的作品，並開展講座介紹非洲音樂。此次訪問期間，他在卡內基音樂廳指揮紐約愛樂樂團演奏自己的作品，其中包括尼日利亞民間交響樂團。[7]
1968年他移居美國，先後在華盛頓霍華德大學、匹茲堡大學和肯特州立大學任教。
晚年生活[編輯]
索旺德1972年起在美國肯特州立大學任教，1977年成為美國公民，1982年退休後和妻子Eleanor McKinney住在拉韋納 (俄亥俄州)。[4]
1987年3月13日在拉韋納去世[4]，葬於蘭多夫鎮（Randolph Township）。
除了教授職位外，索旺德還擁有拉各斯巴里約的酋長頭銜。目前正在提議建立一個中心來研究和推廣他的作品，因為許多作品仍未出版或已絕版。
