Thanks for your input. This page in Chinese language corresponds exclusively to the American law degree "Juris Doctor". Of course JD is not 「法學博士」。In the American context, 「法學博士」is JSD, or SJD, which is discussed in another page. I have directed the material related to 「法學博士」 to that page. And there are separate pages on LLM, as well as legal education and law degrees in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Wikipedia is meant for knowledgeable people in the world to contribute in those areas they specialize in. That principle maximizes the accumulation of human knowledge. Therefore, we should let those with JSD/SJD to edit the "法學博士" page, and those with JD to edit this page, because they are the best people in the know. Those educated in the US, mainland China, Hong Kong or Taiwan, respectively, should also self-consciously limit their contributions to their own area of expertise. Sabotage does not help the accumulation of human knowledge and can only incite resentment and intolerance. This is especially the case as we are students of law and supposed to adhere to nothing but reason.

As for whether JD is a doctorate, enough debates have transpired in the past. Debates on that topic routinely get overheated and quickly go down the road from displeasure to mutual hatred, rather than deeper understanding. It's all about self-serving biases and let's admit that. Wikipedia is about established knowledge and not a place to engage in emotion-charged or even nasty debate.

That said, the commonly accepted perception about what is a JD, at least in the United States, is laid out unequivocally in the first sentence of the English entry of "Juris Doctor": Juris Doctor (abbreviated J.D. or JD, from the Latin, Teacher of Law) is a first professional[2] graduate degree[3] and professional doctorate[4] in law. And there is an entire section dwelling on that topic: "Debates about academic status". It is well-written and adequately buttressed.

Let's not debate without learning what has already been debated in the past. That's just a waste of time. We don't wanna be the Dalai Lama and the CCP either.

How about using the name "學士後法學士" for US J.D. and "學士後醫學士" for US M.D.?
